Do SOMETHING.

Even on the most laziest, depressing, Eeyore-ish days, I challenge myself to do SOMETHING.

Maybe that something is sitting outside and appreciating nature, or sipping a cup of tea and being present, or finally emailing a friend I had been meaning to catch up with.

When we do something, we feel a sense of achievement. And when we know we’ve achieved one thing, we feel like maybe we could even achieve another thing – and the snowball effect begins.

In an effort to take over the world connect with more people and share my books, I decided to start looking for live events to participate in. You know, where there are real-life people that you actually talk to. Face to face. One reason was that my launches had done well, and it was cool meeting people in person; the other was because it meant I was doing something.

It’s easy to sit back and watch the meagre book sales and wonder why I ever thought this could be a career path. It’s easy to blame x/y/z thing that’s out of my control, like ‘I don’t write romance’ or ‘the market is saturated’.

And that goes for other stuff as well. We could all think of a million reasons why we’re not millionaires, or we’re not out saving the world (if you’re in the Southern Hemisphere, you’re probably inside saving your toes from falling off in the cold) but really – I mean really – if we actually want to achieve something, we know we CAN do something.

Me? I want to write and paint and create. I want to connect with people who inspire me and are inspired by me. I want to make this world a better place – even just a little bit.
