Reviewing my goals & aiming higher

Two years ago, I wrote my first business plan. It included a five-year plan, starting from ‘Year Zero’ which was the year before I published.

I set my yearly goals based on two things. First, I started with where I wanted to end up. I set a modest full-time income and worked backwards from there. I also looked at it this way: I thought of a goal that seemed doable, and set it a little bit higher. I still set my goals this way.

This year is Year One. So far, I am on track with my book sales goals (which is a nice surprise – I thought I’d set them too high!) and I’m already seeing the power of networking in action.

I didn’t think I’d see the groundwork start paying off until the middle of Year Two, so I’m changing my goals. Instead of a five year plan to be full time, I’m bringing it down to a two year plan.

Now, before any sensible people tell me to reign my excitement in – I know this might not happen. But I also know that goals and a strong vision are powerful things, and I’ve already seen the effect on myself, my work, and my business.

So it’s time to re-write the plan with a re-newed sense of what might be possible, and a vision of what could be 🙂

  • Your motivation, determination and skills make that a very achievable goal. I love being part of your journey. Dx

Thank you, Deborah 🙂 I figure even if I don’t reach it, I’ll still be much closer to the goal, so there’s no harm in trying!

  • Good luck! I’m sure you’ll meet your being full-time on time or before year two. I’m really happy to hear things are going well for you! 🙂
